The location and the qualified staff

Jonathan Roby - one of the people at the front desk - was incredibly helpful. He recommended three separate restaurants to us that were all excellent. He clearly has exceptional knowledge of Chicago and is very professional.
There was some kind of large group at the hotel consisting of very young people (high school and/or college students). They were congregating in the lobby and in front of the hotel and really blocked the flow of people. The hotel could have done a better job of moving these large groups of people to different locations.

Location is great
$17 per device for wifi is totally unacceptable. I felt this hotel wanted to extract extras at every opportunity. Will never stay again.

Very late in checking us in - three hours past check in time. Mistake on my invoice which took 20 minutes to rectify. Otherwise, very comfortable and good value for the money, in Chicago.
No place to sit in the lobby.

The pool.
Nickel and dimed with fee after fee. Took too long to get us checked in to our room. Room we ended up with was small and cramped.

The internet was $17 a day which is not appropriate. I needed to do some work but was not going to pay that price. I had to sit in Starbucks to work. I pay less than $17 a month at home for my internet. Most hotels offer internet included. I hope Intercontinental can do the same one day. I will have to stay else where otherwise.

The location was fabulous for our on-foot weekend experience. My 16 year old daughter and I chose Chicago for a birthday fun/shopping weekend. Something from Starbucks began our morning journey as it was located right in the lobby of hotel. Great coffee, Fresh pastry, quick service with a smile. Yay! The service and staff at the Intercontinental were awesomely friendly and simply were genuine and very helpful. Our first Interaction was with Wil as he opened our cab door upon arrival. It was just a great experience from there. Wonderful clean rooms with large comfortable bathrooms. Hot water, great view, quiet neighbors, fresh linens all enjoyed. The hotel made a special delivery of a birthday cake in ooir room! It was a mere mention at the counter. It was a yummy cake and a delightful surprise. The pool was really beautiful. The furniture in the pool area was comfortable and the setting well manicured. The hotel had such old world charm and my daughter and I enjoyed roaming the tower halls appreciating the structure, lovely arched doorways and rich wallpaper, overall rich essence of the Tower and the sparkly chandeliers. We loved our stay!
As a female guest, I would have enjoyed and preferred a hairdryer that was independent from the wall. Fi-wi without an additional charge would have benefited our visit.

Ideal location for walking tour of the city.
Not value for money says it all. Paying for the location and that is about it. At the half the price it would be "reasonable" value if you are staying in the new section of the hotel and "good" value for the historic tower. We tried both towers and much prefer and would recommend the historic tower.

Intercontinental represents a fairly priced option for a Chicago stay right at the commercial heart of the city.
Heating system is incredibly noisy. Walls are very thin and room decor is gaudy.

We choose this hotel over other for there lovely pool. After checking in we were told the pool has been closed for weeks. We were give free breakfasts for all 3 mornings and the pool at the Marriott across the street was available. Worth it! Loved our stay!

The staff was willing to help with any problem we had and were able to find a satisfactory resolution. For a shopping weekend, the location is excellent.
They need to be upfront about the amount of money they hold on your credit card. It can be a surprise to find out over $500 is being put on hold.
